Day 27 - Florida to New Orleans

We left the curry hotel early, Sean got his first taste at waffle house, and finally understands what the bloodhound gang was singing about when they said "I want you smothered want you covered like my Waffle House hashbrowns." circa 1999 - the bad touch. If you don't already know the song, you're better off.

We checked out some major Talahassee landmarks, visited a park, and headed out around noon for Pensacola (where Sean resided during his toddler years).

As we were putting along across Florida the Buick hickuped on us: threw in some check engine lights and stopped accelerating on the freeway simultaneously. Sean pulled over, we turned the car off and sat there staring at each other for about 2 minutes. He turned the car back on and everything was fine. We checked all fluids under the hood at a gas station, all good to go...

50 miles later it happened again, so we called budget about the incident. They told us to head to the nearest budget car rental, which was convienantly in Pensacola too.

Not to our surprise when we arrived into the city, we saw jets all over the place, and Sean pointed out one his dad use to fly:

We got some Florida rain fall,

And said goodbye to our trusty friend. What a good silver nugget.

But now, we're gold!

Amazing. On the inside it looks like were in the same car. And it's clean! The bug collection on the front bumper was getting a little over-kill. I was relieved to be gone with the Buick because of the tiny crack on the windshield.

While cleaning out the trunk Sean said "when did you get this Ohio brick?!"

Scott??! Very cool surprise :)

Buick II was christened with Krystal (the rip-off white castle) that Sean is now obsessed with on this trip, amongst others like caribou coffee, sonic slushies, zots, dippin dots, Chaco tacos, and jerky!

Before sunset we found a deal at the La Quinta Inn just outside the French Quarters of New Orleans:

This place was totally posh, by far the nicest place we've stayed! Hardwood floors at the entrance, huge bathroom,

Flatscreen tv!

And look at our waterfront view! What you don't see it? Look between those skyscrapers on the right - booyah, water!

Although our budget couldn't afford the suite at the top with an actual water view or located in the heart of the French Quarters, we were walking distance to all the sights, and felt like royalty.

Here we are walking the infamous bourbon street after with a bellyful of Cajun/Creole:

Sean kept up with his adventurous side and tried the crafish étouffée, while I played it safe with my red beans and rice, jambalaya & shrimp creole.

We passed this really cool cigar shop - they made them in house, grown on a local plantation:

Sean dug the idea of walking around with a stogie; what haven't we done at this point?!

it looks cooler than it tastes if u ask me.

We went back pretty early (for new olreans time) to enjoy the hotel, and picked up some brew on the way.
